Apple updates iWork for Mac & iOS with video embeds, Author book Service

Apple has upgraded its macOS productivity suite to version 10.1, bringing new features like support for movie embeds in Amounts and iBooks Author books in Pages.

Pages now acquire support for video embeds from major video hosting websites YouTube and Vimeo, directly inside a Pages document. The Pages update reads:

Perform YouTube and Vimeo videos right in your own documents.
Create more flexible formulas using new functions.
Publish an iBooks Writer publication to work on it in Pages.
Apple recently discontinued the iBooks Writer platform on July 1, eliminating it in the App Store.

Amounts, Apple’s spreadsheet creation tool, also features the capability to play videos in spreadsheets and gains a couple of new functions, too. The update reads:

Perform YouTube and Vimeo videos directly in your spreadsheets.
Easily add captions and titles to images, videos, shapes, and other objects.
New functions, such as XLOOKUP, XMATCH, and REGEX, let you match patterns, control text and create flexible formulas.
Apple was careful to warn that some regions might not be able to encourage Vimeo and YouTube embeds in Pages and Numbers.

Keynotes, which allows users to make slideshow presentations, got a new upgrade, too. One upgrade seems to be geared toward creating presentations easier to present past a video conference, likely as a response to the continuing coronavirus pandemic. The update is as follows:

Use the new”Play Slideshow in Window” option to get access to other programs while presenting locally or through video conferencing.
Films can now play slide transitions. Insert the same picture to numerous slides to play with from one slide to the next.
Use the Align to Route option to get objects to stay pointed in the correct direction while after a motion path.
Easily add captions and titles to images, videos, shapes, and other items.
The iWork package is free to anyone on macOS and could be downloaded in the Mac App Store. iPhone and iPad owners can get variations of Pages, Keynotes, and Amounts for their mobile devices via the iOS App Store too.
